Bold and playful fine jewellery...handmade in Hackney

All my jewellery is designed and handmade by me...in my garden studio in Hackney, East London. A piece of jewellery should have longevity which is why I only work with solid silver and gold. Each piece will maintain its looks as it is worn...and looked after well, will age beautifully with you. I want to create things that will last for many years to come.

Equally, it's important to carefully source metals and gems...so I only ever use recycled silver and gold and only buy my gemstones from my most trusted suppliers.

I aim to make unfussy, simple designs but with surprising elements of colour or shape. 'Serious' jewellery with a sense of fun... It's really important that my jewellery is joyful to wear, and easy to dress up or down. I like simple shapes in the clothes I wear and like to be comfortable and ready for anything, and I think my designs reflect that.

The idea of using gold and silver and precious gems in a slightly irreverent way really appeals to me...a kind of high-low mix: precious, yes...but decidedly 'unprecious'!

I've always loved creating...as a kid I was always drawing, and would play 'Shoe Designers' with my sister dreaming up wild and wonderful shoe designs...(I think we were possibly ahead of our time with some of them...but I digress.)

After studying art at university, I went on to work in fashion for many years and had loads of fun along the way - maybe a bit too much fun....but two kids, and a few years later I did a short course in jewellery design - and loved it...I felt as if the two worlds of art and fashion had collided! So I continued, and am still continuing - and, of course, learning...

Living and working in Hackney means I'm inspired as much by urban sights and sounds as by the pockets of 'countryside' tucked in amongst the streets. You'll also see the influence of the Isle of Wight - another huge part of my life. Two completely different places...but both equally ingrained in me.

Shape, colour and proportion are things that really excite me. Then there's the honour and responsibility of working with such beautiful materials...there are endless challenges and joys involved - and I love it.

Here are some of my designs together with a few pictures of things that have caught my eye recently..

Commissions

I also work to commission and creating something special and entirely personal to you is one of the best parts of the job. You may want to adapt something on my website - add different gemstones for example - or you may have an idea for something completely unique...either way, it's all about making something exactly right for you. There's more info about the process on my commissions page here or in my blog post here.

Award

In 2017 I was awarded Bronze in the Goldsmiths Craft & Design Council competition for my 2D pearl design of a brooch and earrings. I rendered my design, which included black and white pearls, in gouache.

The brief was: Focusing on the universal theme of water and in particular a feature that embodies SPLASH, DROPLET, RIPPLE or WATERFALL, design two complementary items of Pearl fine jewellery.

Such an honour to be selected.
